Session 1: The Basics of Esports
June 12, 2020 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

Esports, or competitive organized video gaming, has exploded in popularity across the United States in the last five years. Learn the basics of what makes a video game an esport, the different types of esports, the difference between casual and competitive, and why you should have esports at your school or institution.

Session 2: Starting Up An Esports Program
June 26, 2020 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

Once you understand esports, the next step is to start your competitive esports program. In order to do that, you’ll need to address technology needs, facility / a dedicated space to play, selection of games to compete in, and recruiting students to come play in your program! While setting up the program, we’ll go over learning how to setup a program that makes senses for your school, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Session 3: Coach and Managing Esports
July 10, 2020 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

Coaching and managing esports is extremely similar to coaching and managing traditional sports. In order for the students to improve in the game and learn leadership and communications skills, they need a coach! Learn about what skills an esports coach needs, how to evaluate players, how to setup a practice schedule, and supporting your students out of game. World famous HU League of Legends coach Alex Chu, also known as Xpecial in the gaming world, will help you understand what it takes to be successful.

Session 4: Streaming, Competition, Tournaments, and Leagues
July 24, 2020 | 11:00am – 12:00pm

Once your school’s team is setup and ready to go, they needs competitions and leagues to compete in! Learn all about the different leagues that are available, as well as third-party tournaments that students can participate in. In addition, learn about what streaming is, and whether setting up an esports event of your own is a possibility you’d like to tackle!

Session 5: Community Building
July 24, 2020 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

One of the biggest aspects that highlights why esports is great is the sense of community building it supports. Learn more about the esports community, and how to engage the casual gaming student, as well as the local community around you in esports. We’ll also cover what it takes to make a successful stream, and social media and marketing related to esports. We’ll have a special guest speaker from HU, John Macone, helping guide you through this!

Session 6: College & Industry Careers
July 31, 2020 | 1:00 – 2:00pm

Esports isn’t just about playing games. It allows for students to get scholarships to a wide array of colleges, as well as place students in longterm careers that they can get into post-college. We’ll show you the path the students can take from high school to collegiate, how to get recruited, and the different types of industry careers that are available to the student.
